Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Be 18 years old or above Identify as deaf, hard of hearing or having hearing loss
  • Use spoken English at least 2-3 times per week
  • Have access to a quiet space without background noise
  • Be able to read English text and speak it aloud 
  • Do not get good accuracy on automatic speech recognition software with your voice

Do I need special equipment?

You need to have a computer with internet access and a functioning built-in or external microphone and a quiet room.

How long is the study?

Each file contains 25 utterances and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. On average, you can complete 3 files per hour, depending on your availability and pace. You can earn up to $800 by recording 80 files in total.
